Key takeaways
- The Information reported on 22 October 2026 that Salesforce customers are bracing for new fees to use Claude inside Salesforce apps. The exact fee structure isn't public yet.
- Model choice is becoming a billing line, so your Agentforce business case needs a cost per task by model, not one flat assumption.
- Ask your account executive in writing which Claude-powered features will be billed separately, before you renew.
- Design agents to use the cheapest model that does the job and to batch their calls.
The Information reported on 22 October 2026 that Salesforce customers are bracing for new fees to use Anthropic's Claude inside Salesforce's apps. If you budgeted Agentforce as licence plus credits, Salesforce Claude fees could be a third meter you haven't modelled.
One caveat first. The report is paywalled and I've only seen the headline and summary: no amounts, no feature list, no start date. Treat this as an early report, not a price list.
What's been reported about Salesforce Claude fees
What's public so far is the outline: a pricing change, tied to Claude use in Salesforce apps, that could land on existing customers' budgets.
The context is easier to read. VentureBeat reported on 26 August 2026 that Salesforce and Anthropic had expanded their partnership under the name Claudeforce, putting Salesforce's CRM inside Claude. Then Enterprise DNA reported on 1 September that Salesforce expects to spend about $300M on Anthropic tokens in 2026, mostly for its own coding work, and priced Claude-in-CRM on consumption rather than seats. ITPro's Claudeforce explainer adds that customers contract with Anthropic separately for Claude inference, while Salesforce charges for its side through consumption.
If you spend that much on tokens, you pass some of it on. That inference is mine, not something Salesforce has said.
Why a metered model changes your Agentforce business case
Once the model is billed separately, the same agent has a different cost depending on which brain you give it.
Agentforce already has its own meters. I've explained Flex Credits and action costs before.
Add model fees and you have three meters running at once.
Diginomica reported on 3 September one Salesforce customer with a 30% rise in AI spend and only a 3% rise in results. That's what happens when nobody owns unit economics.
My take: Bringing a frontier model into your CRM was never really free. It was just unmetered. A business case built on "the model is included" was a bet on someone else's pricing decision, and that bet is being called.
The second-order effects nobody is pricing in yet
The real risk isn't the fee itself. It's agents that were designed without a cost per task in mind.
A chatty agent that calls a tool at every step is cheap in a demo and expensive at 5,000 cases a day. Design for one call per task, not per step. Use a smaller model for routing and classification, and save the big model for judgement.
Model choice also becomes a governance decision, not an IT preference.
Then there's people. Someone has to own AI unit economics, and it shouldn't be a vendor. In most companies that's an operations lead working with the Salesforce admin or architect. It's a new and quite valuable job.
What to ask your account executive before renewal
Get answers in writing, because verbal assurances don't survive a pricing change.
- Which Claude-powered features will be billed separately, and which stay inside current licences?
- What's the unit: tokens, credits or calls?
- Will existing contracts be grandfathered, and for how long?
- Is there a price cap or a notice period for changes?
- Is there a calculator before usage billing starts?
Run your own numbers in the Agentforce pricing calculator. If you want a second pair of eyes on a contract, these questions for an Agentforce partner apply to Salesforce itself too, or get in touch.
My take: I'd like Salesforce to publish a model-level pricing calculator before the fees land, not after. Customers can plan around almost any price. They can't plan around a surprise.
Try this week:
- List every Agentforce agent and Claude-powered feature you use, with an estimated calls-per-day figure.
- Rework each business case with cost per task by model, and mark where you assumed "included".
- Email your account executive the five questions above and ask for a written reply.
- Check which agents could move routing and classification work to a smaller model.
Frequently asked questions
Is Salesforce really charging extra for Claude?
The Information reported on 22 October 2026 that customers are bracing for new fees. Amounts and features aren't confirmed yet, so treat it as an early report until Salesforce publishes terms.
Will this affect my current Agentforce contract?
It might, depending on your contract terms and renewal date. Ask your account executive whether existing agreements are grandfathered and what notice Salesforce must give.
Should I stop using Claude in Salesforce?
No. Measure first. If an agent saves real hours, a model fee may be perfectly fine. The ones to worry about are agents with no measured benefit.
